We are incredibly proud to share that Bikeability programmes and people were recognised with three national awards at the Team Modeshift National Travel Awards 2025, celebrating innovation, education, and leadership in sustainable travel.

These awards recognise the collective impact of our community of training providers, local authorities, partners and supporters who work every day to give people the confidence and skills to travel actively. From digital innovation and immersive education to individual leadership, it was a landmark night for everything Bikeability stands for.

🏆 Innovative Active Travel Project of the Year

Winner: Bikeability Club Website – The Bikeability Trust

The Bikeability Club website was awarded Innovative Active Travel Project of the Year, recognising our commitment to supporting children and families throughout, and beyond their Bikeability journey.

Bikeability Club is a free, fun and inclusive digital space designed to:

  • Engage parents & families in their child’s cycle training progress
  • Encourage ongoing cycling after training
  • Build confidence through games, quizzes and challenges
  • Provide resources for families to support confident cycling at home

The platform plays a vital role in helping children transition from learning to ride safely, to choosing cycling as a regular mode of transport. This award celebrates not just technical innovation, but the importance of digital engagement in shaping future travel behaviour.

🏆 Education Engagement Project of the Year – Multiple School Impact Award

Winner: East Riding of Yorkshire Council (Immersive Cycle Training)

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council Road Safety Team won the Education Engagement Project of the Year – Multiple School Impact Award for their application of our Immersive Cycle Training project.

This pioneering approach uses immersive technology to:

  • Help young people experience real-world cycling scenarios in a controlled environment
  • Build hazard perception and decision-making skills
  • Increase accessibility for pupils in the lead up, or aftermath, of their Bikeability training

A special thank you goes to Dr Dan Bishop for his work in expanding the immersive training concept, and to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for championing this bold approach to education.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council were also named our Small Organisation of the Year in this year’s Celebration of Bikeability Awards, securing two awards for their Bikeability brilliance!

🏆 Individual Contribution to Sustainable Travel

Winner: Emily Cherry, Chief Executive – The Bikeability Trust

In a moment that took only herself by surprise, Emily Cherry, Chief Executive of The Bikeability Trust, was awarded Individual Contribution to Sustainable Travel.

This award recognises Emily’s national leadership in:

  • Championing inclusive and accessible cycle training
  • Strengthening partnerships across government, local authorities and the active travel sector
  • Driving forward the Trust’s long-term vision to create a nation that rides

Under her leadership, Bikeability has continued to grow in reach, quality and impact, while expanding the conversation around who cycle training is for – ensuring that no one is left behind.

These awards belong to the entire Bikeability family — our instructors, training providers, local authorities, partners and supporters — who deliver high-quality, inclusive cycle training in communities across England every day.

Recognition at a national level reinforces the vital role that education, innovation and collaboration play in shaping safer, healthier and more sustainable travel for future generations.

We are immensely proud of everyone involved and excited to continue building on this success.

Thank you to Team Modeshift, our partners, and everyone who makes Bikeability possible.
