So, we’ve come to the end of another year! As we reflect on the last 12 months, we’re so proud to celebrate the achievements that made 2025 such a success. From our biggest Cycle to School Week yet, to new initiative launches and award wins, we’ve been honoured to help people discover the power and joy of cycling.
We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of so many of you, from our amazing instructors, to training providers up and down the country. Read on to see what we’ve achieved together, and here’s to 2026 and beyond!
We’ve helped almost 6 million children get cycling
We helped 560,360 children in England get pedalling between April 2024 and March 2025. We’ve now trained over 5.5 million children how to cycle safely on the roads, equipping them with a valuable skill for life.

Our biggest ever Cycle to School Week
Cycle to School Week 2025 smashed previous records, with over 500 schools and almost half a million pupils taking part. The event aims to embed healthy habits from a young age, encouraging children and families to leave the car at home and cycle to school instead.
There were a range of pledges to choose from, including a commitment to cycle to school every day during the week or going on a cycle ride with your family. Thank you to everyone who took part, it was inspiring to see so many of you pledging with us. You can read more about the fun that took place over Cycle to School Week here.

Celebration of Bikeability
We received the most nominations to date for 2025’s Celebration of Bikeability awards! Held in July, these awards recognise the incredible individuals and organisations that contribute to the success of Bikeability. From instructors and schools to young cyclists and families, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on the people who help to make Bikeability such a success. You can read more about our very worthy winners here.

Bike bus
In October, we launched our range of bike bus resources, with handy videos and guides to help you start a bike bus in your area. A bike bus is a fun, safe and eco-friendly solution that brings children together to ride to school as a group, with the support and supervision of adults. It’s a great way to promote cycling, build community and give children the skills and confidence to ride independently! Learn more about bike bus and download the resources here.

Summer of Cycling Challenge
We teamed up with our partners, Frog Bikes, for the second annual Summer of Cycling challenge! We invited children and families to take part in a range of fun cycling activities, from exploring nature to making a pledge for Cycle to School Week. It’s a great opportunity to be active, enjoy the great outdoors, and enjoy quality time together away from screens! You can read more about last year’s winners here.
We’re already looking forward to another round of challenges this summer – stay tuned for more exciting cycling activities coming your way!

Modeshift Award wins
We were thrilled that Bikeability programmes and people were recognised with three national awards at the Team Modeshift National Travel Awards 2025, celebrating innovation, education, and leadership in sustainable travel.
We were delighted to win prizes for:

Education Engagement Project of the Year – Multiple School Impact Award

Individual Contribution to Sustainable Travel
Winner: Emily Cherry, Chief Executive – The Bikeability Trust
These awards don’t just belong to the trust – they’re recognition for the fantastic Bikeability family of instructors, training providers, local authorities, partners and supporters. With your support, we’re able to deliver high-quality, inclusive cycle training in communities across England every day. Thank you for everything that you do!

What’s next?
2025 was an exceptional year for the Bikeability Trust, bringing together national recognition, meaningful policy influence, growing reach, and a strong sense of momentum.
As we look to the future, we are optimistic that Ministers will agree three years of Bikeability Grant funding for the period 2026–2029. This anticipated commitment would provide important long-term certainty and enable us to plan confidently for the years ahead. With your continued support, we’re excited to continue work on our headline missions — from expanding access to cycles to helping schools make active travel the norm.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey — here’s to even more success in 2026.
