February marks LGBT+ History Month, an initiative launched by the charity Schools Out to highlight the incredible things LGBTQIA+ people have achieved throughout history, in all areas of life.
At The Bikeability Trust, we want everyone to feel welcome and supported as part of the cycling community. In honour of LGBT+ history month, we’ve rounded up some of the fantastic inclusive cycling organisations found around the UK. Thank you for all the work you do to ensure cycling is accessible and welcoming to all.
Out Velo
Founded by cyclists of the LGBTQIA+ community in 2008, Out Velo is a friendly and inclusive road cycling club. It’s free to join, with no membership or sign up fees, and rides take place across Britain and Europe!
Out Velo’s rides are aimed at recreational road cyclists used to riding 60km+, with hills. Expect to explore wilder and more rural areas, with beautiful scenery and café stops along the way.

If there are currently no cycling events in your area, not to worry. OutdoorLads have plenty more for outdoorsy types to get stuck into, including walking, running, climbing and water sports.

The first two rides are free for new members, and all trail captains are first aid trained. Typical events include exploring picturesque trails in Scotland over the Easter weekend, or a four day summer stay at a National Trust site in the Lake District.

Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces
Launched by the LGBTQIA+ rights charity Stonewall, Rainbow Laces are a visible signal that everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community is welcome to move, play and participate. At The Bikeability Trust, we’re proud to sign up to the Proud Pledge as part of the Rainbow Laces campaign. Belonging changes how we move. When welcome is visible, confidence grows – and movement follows.
The Bikeability Trust is a place where everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community can have confidence to Move with Pride. In honour of LGBT+ History Month, we’re giving away 3 pairs of Rainbow Laces to celebrate inclusion in cycling.

Look out for posts on our Instagram and X channels for more details and how to enter. Entries close midnight Saturday 28 February. Winners will be chosen at random. T&Cs apply.
