Because learning to ride should just be the beginning

You can provide access to a cycle, helmet and lock for children who have completed Bikeability training, so they can continue enjoying the benefits of cycling beyond their training sessions.

For many children, learning to ride is the beginning of a journey filled with happiness, adventure and freedom. But for some, Bikeability training is where that journey starts and stops. They learn the skills, build the courage and experience all the benefits cycling can offer – then have to stop because they do not have access to a cycle at home.

Cycles for Children helps change that.

Your donation can give a child access to a cycle.

A child’s background should not limit their chance to ride

One in four children aged 5–10 in the UK does not have access to a cycle.

For children who complete Bikeability training, this can create a difficult barrier. They may gain new skills, enjoy the excitement of riding and feel proud of what they have achieved, but without a cycle of their own, they often don’t have the chance to continue.

Cycling should not stop just as opportunity begins. Your donation can help children take the next step.

A cycle is more than transport. For a child, it is adventure, discovery and pride.

For a child, cycling can open up new places, experiences and possibilities. It can help them travel actively, spend time outdoors, connect with friends and family, and build vital skills they can carry with them for life.

Bikeability gives children the training to cycle safely and confidently. Cycles for Children helps make sure more children have the chance to keep using those skills.

How your donation helps

Through Cycles for Children, your donation can go towards:

  • Providing access to a cycle and essential equipment
  • Funding a practical, locally delivered voucher scheme that uses trusted routes, including local bike shops
  • Removing a real barrier for a child who is ready to keep cycling

Your support can help a child continue the journey they have already started. Cycles for Children supports eligible children who have completed Bikeability training but do not have access to a cycle at home.

Help a child’s adventure continue.

Why donate through Bikeability?

Bikeability sees first-hand the difference cycling can make in children’s lives.

Every year, almost half a million children across England take part in Bikeability training.

Your donation helps reach those children through existing Bikeability training networks and local delivery partners.

Support is targeted through clear eligibility checks and delivered through trusted local bike shops using a voucher system. That means your support can make a practical, lasting difference.

Every donation helps more children put their Bikeability skills into practice.

Fundraising through your school?

Schools can help more children keep cycling by fundraising for Cycles for Children through SuperKind.

Whether it’s a sponsored cycle, non-uniform day, cycle-to-school challenge or whole-school fundraiser, your pupils can help give more children the freedom to keep riding beyond Bikeability training.

We’ve partnered with SuperKind to make fundraising simple and rewarding for schools. Through the platform, your school can:

  • Set up fundraising pages quickly and easily
  • Track donations and fundraising progress in one place
  • Share campaigns with parents, carers and the wider school community
  • Split funds raised between Cycles for Children and your own school fundraising goals

That means your school can support children who need access to cycles, while also raising money for projects, equipment or activities that benefit your own pupils.

Fundraising through your school is a great way to build on Bikeability training and help children understand the importance of fairness, inclusion and active travel.
