Get Cycling in Schools

As everyone gears up for the new school year, we’ve been busy behind the scenes to increase awareness of our Get Cycling in Schools programme. We’re doing more to increase engagement via the Department of Education and our lobbying work, as well as reaching out to schools with the help of education marketing agency, Ambleglow.

We’ve also published resources to help industry scale up their delivery and reach more children here on our website. You’ll find guidance on overcoming some of the most common barriers, as well as case studies to see how this can work in practice.

Cycle to School Week 2025

Cycle to School Week is one of the most powerful opportunities we have to showcase the impact of Bikeability in action. This year, 47 MPs have already confirmed they want to see sessions in their constituencies. That’s a huge chance to demonstrate the importance of what you do every day.

The Trust is here to support you every step of the way, making the process smooth, supported, and enjoyable. Please support us by ensuring you have sessions running on the Friday of Cycle to School Week (17 Oct), so together we can make the most of this national moment and show local changemakers the difference Bikeability makes.

Please email us at hello@bikeabilitytrust.org if you’d like more support or information. We cannot guarantee that your MP will be interested to visit, but it would save time going back and forth if you already have an opportunity set up.

Looking forward to 2026

As we look to the year ahead, we’ve been reflecting on the responses from our industry surveys to help us plan for Bikeability funding from 2026 onwards.

We hear that you want to be more involved in decision making about the future, and this survey was a fundamental part of hearing your views as we work with Active Travel England to plan the future. Our steer is not revolution, we have a core set of programme objectives that are the long-term vision for Bikeability, but there may be some strengthening of some areas based on your feedback.

We have a very large industry and a very small Bikeability Trust team, but we were delighted so many of you (over 750 people!) took the time to give your views. We need a little more time to analyse and understand the survey responses, but we want to thank you for your input to this critical time. It has given us a core steer on issues such as increasing school engagement and securing long term funding.

A key finding from the instructor and training provider surveys is that many of you would like to feel more engaged with the trust and the work we do. Trust staff will continue to meet industry in person, joining delivery sessions and connecting with what’s happening on the ground. We would like to engage more with the regional networks, and are always happy to attend team meetings. We are also looking at webinar and online opportunities for Industry members to engage with us more, and our communications programme is stacked full of information.

These learnings will allow us to build our bank of evidence on the impact Bikeability cycle training is having to help secure continued growth of the programme.

We’re looking forward to meeting training providers and grant recipients at our annual conference on 22 October and keep an eye out for upcoming details of our instructor webinar on 23 October.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete a survey. Your feedback is crucial to the success and continued future of the trust. If you haven’t managed to complete the survey yet, you have until the end of the day on the 12 September. Please find the survey links below.
