Big Walk and Wheel

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, formerly known as Big Pedal, is the UK’s largest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. It aims to inspire hundreds of thousands of pupils to get active during the school run.

During the two-week challenge schools compete to record the most pupils getting to school on foot, using a wheelchair, cycling or scooting. Why not get involved and see if your school can take the top spot!

Big Bike Revival

The Big Bike Revival’s mission is to deliver free events that enable people to start cycling through fixing bikes, teaching skills and leading rides. The programme is funded by Department for Transport and supported by local authorities.

There are events all across the country run by local community groups and organisations that are free for everyone to get involved with. Find out what’s happening near you.

Bike Week

Bike Week is the nation’s annual celebration of cycling in early summer. Events and rides take place all over the country – have a look at the website to find out if there’s anything taking place near you. And if there isn’t, you can get involved and organise something yourself!

You can also mark Bike Week by making sure you get out on your bicycle, maybe by riding to school every day or having a cycling adventure on the weekend!

New Forest Cycling Week

Taking place in the last week of July, this event has been running since 1975 and attracts about 200 people who camp at the New Forest for a week of cycle rides and other family friendly events. It is fairly informal but there are organised rides and events that you can take part in.

This event is perfect for families and is open to small groups and individuals and all ages and levels of experience.

Big Bike Bash

A event that is fun for all the family at Avon Tyrrell, UK Youth’s activity centre near Bransgore in the New Forest. The event runs over the August Bank Holiday weekend and raises money for charities including UK Youth.

There are lots of bike races and challenges – including longest wheelie and highest bunny hops – and live music in the evenings. There’s lots to do for all the family and you don’t have to be an amazing cyclist to join in the fun. Camping is included in the ticket price.

York Cycle Rally

A relaxed, free and completely volunteered-organised rally that is open to all cyclists, from everyday pootlers to serious club cyclists. This historic rally was founded in 1945 and has a family friendly atmosphere, with rides suitable for all abilities, children’s activities, talks and live music.

The event takes place over a weekend usually in June and you can camp on site or just turn up for the day.
