As we move towards the end of the summer and look ahead to a busy autumn, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who continues to support our mission and help more people discover the benefits of cycling. Across our programmes and initiatives, we’re seeing growing enthusiasm for active travel and increasing recognition of the positive impact that cycling can have on health, wellbeing, independence and local communities.
This month, I want to highlight two exciting opportunities that showcase how we’re supporting people at every stage of their cycling journey, from children travelling actively to school, to giving adults the confidence they need to cycle on today’s roads.
Cycle to School Week 2026
Cycle to School Week returns this year, and it remains one of the most powerful opportunities we have to showcase the impact of Bikeability in action.
This year’s Cycle to School Week focuses on the real cost of the school run, and how small changes in the way we travel can make a big difference to everyday life. This includes improved physical and mental wellbeing, increased independence, reduced congestion around school gates and a positive impact on the environment. It’s also an opportunity for schools, parents and communities to come together and promote active travel habits that can last a lifetime.
At the Trust, we’re coordinating a number of MP visits to schools across England during Cycle to School Week and the surrounding period. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate the valuable work you do every day, and for MPs to gain understanding of how Bikeability is run in their constituencies. Please email us at [email protected] if you’d like more support or information.
At a time when many schools are looking for ways to support healthier lifestyles and sustainable travel, Cycle to School Week shines a spotlight on the difference cycling can make. Every cycle journey can help to build confidence, create positive routines and contribute to safer, more active communities.
By getting involved and helping to spread the word about the benefits of cycling to school, you can make a real difference. Schools that sign up can also access a fundraising pack as part of their Schools Pledge Pack, with ideas and resources to help engage their community and raise funds for our Cycles for Children appeal through SuperKind.
Funds raised can be split between supporting children who need access to cycles and your school’s own fundraising goals, helping both your pupils and children without a cycle of their own.
Introducing CycleIn
I’m delighted to introduce CycleIn, our new online training platform designed to help adults develop the skills and confidence to cycle on today’s roads.
We know that many adults want to cycle more, whether for work, leisure, wellbeing or everyday journeys, but often lack the confidence to get started or return to cycling after time away. CycleIn has been created to provide practical, accessible online training that helps people build their confidence and develop safe cycling habits at their own pace.
CycleIn supports healthier lifestyles, more independent travel and lower transport costs, making it easier for people to choose cycling as part of their daily lives.
The training is designed for a wide range of people, including:
- People cycling to work
- People cycling for leisure or wellbeing
- Parents and carers
- Students and young people
- E-bike users
- People who cycle for work, such as couriers and delivery riders
- Employees in the public sector, local authorities, NHS trusts and emergency services
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the benefits of cycling with confidence, and CycleIn is an important step towards making that possible.
